Obverse description Central field bears four large Chinese ideograms arranged to be read top to bottom and right to left, flanking Manchu script characters at centre. The entire central device is encircled by a continuous band of Chinese ideograms forming the denominational and reign-period legend. The inscription records the issuing province, the Guangxu Emperor's reign year, and the weight denomination expressed in candareens, rendered in a formal clerical script style typical of late Qing provincial coinage.
