Obverse description The obverse is divided into two distinct fields by a vertical line. To the left, the Portuguese coat of arms appears in low relief against a plain field, surrounded by the circular legend 'REPÚBLICA PORTUGUESA' and the date '2005' positioned at the base. To the right, a stylized architectural detail — the soaring gothic arch of the Monastery of Batalha — is rendered in fine linear engraving, evoking the monument's distinctive Manueline tracery. The denomination '5 EURO' is inscribed in the lower right field. The engraver's signature 'A. MARINHO' and the mint mark 'INCM' appear in small characters near the top right.
