Obverse description At center, the numeral '5' is prominently displayed in the field, surrounded by the nine heraldic shields of the Austrian federal provinces arranged in a circular composition. The legend 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' arcs around the perimeter of the coin face, with the denomination '5 EURO' inscribed below the central numeral. The overall design consciously echoes the classical layout of the pre-euro Austrian 50 Schilling coinage. The nonagonal flan lends the piece a distinctive nine-sided outline characteristic of the Austrian silver commemorative series.

Additional information

Issued in the Austrian Mint's long-running commemorative silver program, this piece marks the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth in Salzburg on January 27, 1756. Austria has issued Mozart-themed coinage across multiple denominations and metals since at least the 1950s, making this one of dozens of such issues — a fact that keeps secondary market premiums modest despite the silver content.
