Reverse description A stylized architectural elevation of the Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam dominates the central field, rendered in a modernist linear graphic style against a dark background, with decorative foliate sprigs framing the lower portion of the design. The factory complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is depicted with its characteristic glazed curtain-wall facade and interconnecting conveyors. The legend 'DE VAN NELLE FABRIEK' appears in large letters across the upper central field, with 'NEDERLANDS WERELDERFGOED' and the date '2015' inscribed below. The denomination '5 EURO' is stated in the lower exergue. A small mint mark appears to the lower right of the architectural motif.

Additional information

The Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam was built between 1925 and 1931 for the processing of coffee, tea, and tobacco, and became one of the defining buildings of the Nieuwe Bouwen movement — the Dutch branch of modernist functionalist architecture. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014, the year before this coin was issued, which explains the timing directly.

The factory had been repurposed as an office complex by the early 2000s after decades of industrial decline. Its UNESCO inscription came alongside ten other works by Le Corbusier's circle.
