| Reverse description | Detailed portrait bust of Dutch football legend Johan Cruijff facing forward, with characteristic long hair, set within a rectangular panel dominating the central field. The name 'JOHAN' appears in bold lettering with red colour accent on the left side of the field, and 'CRUIJFF' vertically on the right side, also with red colouring. The denomination '5 EURO' is inscribed at the lower left, while 'NUMMER 14' — a reference to Cruijff's iconic shirt number — appears at the lower right. The composition employs selective colour application in white and red against the silver proof surface. |

Issued to mark the 70th anniversary of Johan Cruijff's birth, this coin appeared roughly a year after his death from lung cancer in March 2016. The Royal Dutch Mint produced it in two versions distinguished by colorization — this white and red variant references Ajax and the Dutch national team colors most associated with his career. Cruijff had a complicated relationship with official Dutch commemoration late in his life, having famously declined an appointment to the Order of Orange-Nassau in 1999, citing his distrust of institutional honors.
