Additional information

Issued to mark the 500th anniversary of Hieronymus Bosch's death, this coin was part of the Netherlands' extended commemorative program honoring the painter in 2016 — a year in which 's-Hertogenbosch, his birthplace, organized one of the largest Bosch retrospectives ever assembled. The anniversary prompted a significant reattribution effort by the Bosch Research and Conservation Project, which ultimately reduced the confirmed Bosch corpus from roughly 37 paintings to around 20.

The Royal Dutch Mint struck this in its standard commemorative silver, though the five-euro denomination kept it outside legal tender circulation in most retail contexts under Dutch collector coin conventions.
