Additional information

The Dutch Waterline — the inundation defense system used to flood low-lying polders and halt advancing armies — was employed as recently as 1940, when it briefly slowed the German advance before the Luftwaffe rendered it obsolete. This coin marks the completion of the New Dutch Waterline's UNESCO World Heritage listing process, which concluded in 2021 after years of joint nomination efforts between the Netherlands and Belgium covering over 85 kilometers of forts, sluices, and inundation fields.
