Obverse description The obverse presents a finely detailed naturalistic scene depicting a male Western Capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) in a courtship display posture at left, its tail fanned and beak raised, rendered with meticulous feather detail against a backdrop of coniferous trees. A smaller female capercaillie is shown in the lower foreground, crouching among fallen branches. The Slovak national coat of arms — a shield bearing a double-barred cross on a triple mountain — appears in the right field. The curved legend SLOVENSKO 2024 arcs along the upper rim, while the denomination 5 EURO is inscribed prominently at the right. The mint mark MK appears to the left of the denomination.

Reverse description The reverse features a highly detailed relief portrait of a male Western Capercaillie perched on a gnarled branch, depicted in full lekking display with tail spread into a broad fan and head tilted upward with beak open in song. The plumage is rendered with exceptional naturalistic precision, capturing the iridescent breast and layered wing feathers. A spruce branch bearing a cone is shown at the right of the field. The Latin binomial TETRAO UROGALLUS curves along the upper rim, while the Slovak vernacular name HLUCHÁŇ HÔRNY arcs along the lower rim. The engraver's initials TL appear near the lower right rim.
