| Reverse description | The reverse bears a full-colour reproduction of the oil painting 'Winter' by Vilhelms Purvītis (1872–1945), one of the foremost Latvian Impressionist landscape painters, applied using colour printing technology directly onto the coin's surface. The composition depicts a serene winter landscape characteristic of Purvītis's atmospheric style, with muted tones of white, grey, and pale blue evoking frost and diffused light. The coloured image fills the entirety of the reverse field, creating an effect closely approximating the original canvas. No additional legends or inscriptions appear on the reverse. |

| Additional information |
Vilhelms Purvītis (1872–1945) was the dominant figure in Latvian landscape painting and the founding director of the Art Academy of Latvia, established in 1919 following independence from Russia. His reputation rested almost entirely on winter scenes rendered with an almost clinical sensitivity to light — work that earned him a grand prize at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle. He died in exile in Bonn, having fled the Soviet re-occupation of 1944.
