Additional information

The Third Farthing was a denomination struck specifically for Malta — a coin that existed nowhere else in the British Empire. Introduced in 1827 to meet the island's need for very small change compatible with local copper coinage, it remained in production intermittently until 1913. This 2015 issue commemorates that peculiar colonial monetary footnote.

At 0.5 grams of .999 gold, the piece is among the smallest gold issues in the modern Maltese commemorative program.
