Almada Negreiros spent decades as an outsider in his own country — a futurist agitator who signed the 1917 "Ultimatum" manifesto attacking the Portuguese cultural establishment, then lived much of his middle life in Madrid and Lisbon's margins before the Estado Novo regime eventually absorbed him into its monumental commissions. This coin is part of INCM's broader "Modernism" series honoring the generation that built Portuguese avant-garde culture largely in defiance of official taste.
