| 正面描述 | Central to the nonagonal flan is a large numeral '5' set within a circular depression, surrounded by an eight-pointed star motif whose alternating segments bear the nine provincial coats of arms of Austria rendered in fine relief. The circumferential legend 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' arcs across the upper portion of the field, while '· EURO ·' appears along the lower border, all in raised Latin lettering. The design, by Helmut Andexlinger, integrates heraldic imagery — including the Austrian double-headed eagle, the Tyrolean eagle, the Styrian panther, and other provincial emblems — into the radiating star composition. The overall arrangement creates a dynamic, geometric treatment of Austrian national identity framing the denomination. |

Issued to mark the 250th anniversary of the Schönbrunn Tiergarten — founded in 1752 by Emperor Francis I of Lorraine as an imperial menagerie and converted to public access in 1779 — this coin arrived in the same year Austria completed its euro transition. The Schönbrunn zoo holds a particular claim: it is the oldest continuously operating zoo in the world, a distinction it has held without serious challenge.
