Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse depicts a dramatic polar landscape rendered across the inner copper-nickel core, showing a large iceberg with its visible above-water rocky formation to the left and its submerged mass extending below the waterline to the right, illustrating the well-known phenomenon of the greater portion of an iceberg lying beneath the surface. A seal is depicted swimming in the lower field beneath the waterline, conveying the rich marine wildlife of the polar ecosystem. The engraver's initials 'NT' appear in the upper left of the field. The legend 'POLARE ZONE' (Polar Zone) is inscribed along the lower arc of the dark outer ring in bold lettering. The violet polymer middle ring encircles the central scene, consistent with the design language of the German climate zones commemorative series.

Aanvullende informatie

Germany's trimetallic collector series, launched in 2016 with the "Temperate Zone" issue, was built around a polymer middle ring — a format developed specifically to allow color without printing directly on metal. The violet ring here denotes the polar zone, the fourth and final climatic band in the five-coin sequence. Production was split across all five German mints, making individual mint-mark examples effectively distinct collectibles within the same type.
