| 背面描述 | A draped bust of King John V (João V) of Portugal is depicted in profile facing right, rendered in the baroque portrait style characteristic of early 18th-century Portuguese coinage. The effigy features a long flowing wig typical of the period and formal royal attire. The circular legend identifies the monarch as IOANNES V by the grace of God King of Portugal and the Algarves. The date 1722 and mint mark L (Lisbon) appear in the lower field, referencing the original peça gold coin this commemorative reproduces. |

This piece commemorates the gold "peça" (or "dobra") introduced under João V of Portugal, whose reign from 1706 to 1750 coincided with the peak influx of Brazilian gold into the Portuguese treasury. The original coin it references helped fund João V's extravagant building projects — the Mafra palace-convent among them — and circulated widely enough to become a monetary benchmark across Atlantic trade networks.
The .999 fineness is notably purer than the original 22-karat peças it honors.
