Obverse description Central field features the large numeral '5' set within a nine-pointed star motif, each segment of which is filled with the heraldic shield of one of Austria's nine federal provinces, rendered in fine relief. The provincial arms are arranged radially around the denomination, symbolizing the unity of the Austrian republic. The legend 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' arcs along the upper periphery in incuse lettering conforming to the nonagonal flan, while '•EURO•' appears along the lower border, flanked by two raised dots. The overall design is attributed to engraver Helmut Andexlinger and reflects the standard obverse type used for the Austrian 5 Euro commemorative series.
