This piece belongs to INCM's "Queens of Portugal" series, commemorating Leonor of Portugal (1458–1525), queen consort to João II and later to Manuel I. Leonor co-founded the Misericórdia confraternities in 1498 — a network of charitable brotherhoods that spread across Portugal and its overseas territories and still operates today as one of the oldest continuous welfare institutions in the world.
