Obverse description The obverse features the numeral '5' at center, surrounded by the nine heraldic shields of the Austrian federal provinces arranged in a circular pattern, echoing the design tradition established by the earlier 50 Schilling coinage. The encircling legend 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' appears along the upper periphery, with the denomination '5 EURO' integrated within the central field. The nonagonal flan is defined by nine flat sides corresponding to the nine provincial coats of arms. The design was engraved by Helmut Andexlinger.
