Useldange Castle, perched above the Attert valley in western Luxembourg, dates to at least the 12th century and passed through the hands of the counts of Useldange before falling into ruin by the early modern period. Henri I of Useldange was among the more politically active nobles of the region during the 13th century, involved in the complex feudal allegiances that defined the period before the House of Luxembourg consolidated regional dominance.
This is the seventh issue in Luxembourg's ongoing niobium castle series, which began in 2007 — each coin assigned a distinct niobium colour through anodization, with the 2017 issue rendered in blue.
