Issued to mark the centenary of the First World War, this coin commemorates Henri I of Luxembourg — not a sovereign of the Grand Duchy, but Henri IV of Nassau-Weilburg, whose dynastic line eventually produced the modern Luxembourg ruling house. The "Reinette" designation refers to a variety of apple historically cultivated in Luxembourg, chosen as a regional symbol for this series pairing grand ducal heritage with local agricultural identity. An unusual combination, and one that generated some collector debate at issue.
