| Obverse description | At the center of the nonagonal field, the large numeral '5' dominates, surrounded by the nine provincial coats of arms of Austria arranged in a ring, recalling the design tradition of the former 50-Schilling coinage. The encircling legend 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' runs along the upper periphery, while '5 · EURO ·' appears in the lower portion of the field. The composition is executed in a clean, heraldic style, with each shield rendered in precise relief.
