Obverse description The arms of the Republic of San Marino occupy the central field, depicting a heart-shaped shield charged with three towers atop a triple-peaked mountain, surmounted by a mural crown and flanked by an olive branch to the left and an oak branch to the right. A ribbon scroll below the shield bears the national motto LIBERTAS. The circular legend REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO runs along the upper periphery, while the engraver's signature A. NAPOLIONE appears in the lower field beneath the scroll.

Reverse description The reverse presents a richly layered commemorative collage evoking Puccini's opera Madama Butterfly. At center, a profile portrait of Cio-Cio-San is set against a stylized background of a traditional Japanese shoji screen with geometric latticework. Three butterflies flutter around the central motif, symbolizing the opera's heroine. In the lower left, a depiction of the American warship Abraham Lincoln (USS) recalls Lieutenant Pinkerton's role in the narrative, while the lower register features stylized ocean waves interspersed with floating musical notes. The legend 1924-2024 PUCCINI arcs along the upper periphery, with the denomination R 5 EURO and engravers' signatures A.M.INC. D.LONGO at the bottom.
