| Reverse description | The reverse depicts an allegorical scene honouring the poet Francesco Petrarch on the 650th anniversary of his death. In the lower right field, a profile portrait of Petrarch is shown offering a laurel branch toward the idealized figure of Laura, who appears in the left and upper field with her hair flowing freely as if stirred by a gentle breeze, evoking her celebrated description in the Canzoniere as an angelic, ethereal presence.
