The Circolo di San Pietro, founded in Rome in 1869, was established specifically to support Catholic charitable works in the wake of the Papal States' territorial collapse — a private lay organization stepping in as the Vatican's own temporal power contracted. The 2019 issue marks the association's 150th anniversary.
