| Obverse description | The copper-nickel centre features the Papal Coat of Arms of Pope Francis, depicting an oval shield charged with the IHS christogram surmounted by the papal tiara and flanked by the crossed keys of Saint Peter. The colonnade of St. Peter's Square is rendered in relief on either side of the arms, lending architectural depth to the composition. The papal motto MISERANDO ATQUE ELIGENDO appears in the lower field beneath the coat of arms. The encircling bronzital ring carries the legend FRANCISCVS PONT. MAX. A.D. MMXIX around the upper periphery, with the engravers' signatures PETRASSI INC. and P. DANIELE inscribed at the lower rim. |
