| Obverse description | The obverse features the numeral '5' of the face value at centre, flanked and surrounded by the nine heraldic shields of the Austrian federal provinces, arranged in a circular composition across the nonagonal field. The encircling legend 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' appears along the upper periphery, with '5 · EURO ·' inscribed below the central numeral. The design consciously echoes the classic composition of the earlier Austrian 50 Schilling coinage, rendered by engraver Helmut Andexlinger. |
