| 表面の説明 | Central field features a winged allegorical figure, reclining mournfully in a small boat upon stylized waves, lowering a laurel wreath into the sea in a gesture of mourning and commemoration. The composition evokes the 1824 destruction of the island of Kassos during the Greek War of Independence. The Hellenic Republic coat of arms — a quartered shield with a cross, encircled by a laurel wreath — appears in the lower exergue. The denomination '5 ΕΥΡΩ' is inscribed to the left of the central motif, and the dates '1824–2024' with a floral ornament appear to the upper right. The arc legend along the upper rim reads '200 ΧΡΟΝΙΑ ΑΠΟ ΤΗΝ ΚΑΤΑΣΤΡΟΦΗ ΤΗΣ ΚΑΣΟΥ', with 'ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ' inscribed along the lower rim. |

Kassos, the southernmost island of the Dodecanese, lost nearly its entire population in June 1824 when Ottoman and Egyptian forces razed the island in retaliation for Kassiot naval raids supporting the Greek Revolution. Estimates place the dead at several hundred and the enslaved at over two thousand — a catastrophe that effectively depopulated an island that had fielded one of the more capable small merchant fleets in the Aegean.
The 2024 issue marks the bicentennial of the destruction, part of Greece's broader commemorative program tied to the 1821 independence anniversary cycle.
