| Obverse description | The upper portion of the obverse features the denomination numeral '5' to the left and the word 'EURO' to the right, flanking the Slovak national coat of arms — a shield bearing a double cross on three hills — at centre top. Below, the legend 'SLOVENSKO 2025' arcs across the field. The lower register presents a finely detailed underwater scene divided by a water-surface line: a large Danube salmon (Hucho hucho) dominates the left and centre, depicted in realistic relief with characteristic spotting, open mouth, and fully rendered fins, while a smaller fish appears to the upper right. Aquatic vegetation and a riverbed of rounded pebbles complete the naturalistic composition. The mint mark 'MK' for the Kremnica Mint appears within the lettering on the obverse. |

Slovakia's "Nature Protection" collector series has addressed indigenous freshwater species before, but the Danube salmon — known locally as the hlavátka podunajská — occupies a specific conservation urgency that others in the series do not. The fish is functionally extinct in much of its historic Slovak range, surviving in viable numbers only in the Váh and a handful of its tributaries, largely due to hydroelectric damming through the second half of the twentieth century.
KM#221 is a bimetallic-adjacent brass circulation-quality issue rather than a silver proof, placing it in a more accessible tier of the series.
