Issued to mark the 60th anniversary of the Austrian Federal Army, reconstituted in 1955 following the Austrian State Treaty that ended Allied occupation and restored full sovereignty. The army's re-establishment was directly tied to Austria's declaration of permanent neutrality — a political condition demanded by the Soviets as the price for withdrawal.
The .800 silver composition places this squarely in Austria's mid-denomination commemorative format of the period, before the series transitioned toward base metal issues.
