| Reverse description | The reverse presents a rich composite of symbolic and architectural motifs drawn from both cities. At left, details from the celebrated bronze statue 'Vittoria Alata' (Winged Victory) housed in the Capitolium of Brescia are rendered with fine detail, accompanied above by a decorative mosaic motif from the Domus dell'Ortaglia. At right, two geese and a floral motif derived from a carved capital of Palazzo della Ragione are depicted. The central field features architectural details of the Northern Portico of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo. The arched legend 'BERGAMO•BRESCIA' and 'CAPITALI ITALIANE DELLA CULTURA 2023' encircle the design, with the 'R' mintmark of the Rome Mint at left and the denomination '5 EURO' at lower right. |
