This piece commemorates Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, the Dutch statesman executed in 1619 on orders from the States-General after Maurice of Nassau maneuvered his political destruction — a judicial killing that divided the Republic and haunted Dutch memory for generations. Van Oldenbarnevelt had negotiated the Twelve Years' Truce with Spain in 1609, a decision Maurice opposed bitterly on military and religious grounds. The charge was ultimately treason, the evidence largely fabricated.
The X# prefix indicates a non-circulating commemorative outside the regular KM sequence, struck for the collector market rather than general circulation.
