Beschrijving voorzijde The official emblem of the XX Winter Olympic Games — Torino 2006 — occupies the central field, rendered in a stylized graphic composition. The legend REPUBBLICA ITALIANA arcs around the upper portion of the design, while the mintmark (R) appears at left and the artist's initial is positioned at right. The inscription TORINO 2006 is incorporated within or adjacent to the Olympic logo. The overall design reflects a modern, graphic approach consistent with Italian commemorative coinage of the period.

Aanvullende informatie

Part of Italy's extended commemorative program for the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics, this issue was one of several silver pieces released across 2004–2006 under a licensing arrangement that generated significant revenue for the organizing committee. Turin had last hosted the Winter Games in 1961 — as a candidate city that lost the bid — making the 2006 award, won over Sion and Helsinki in the 1999 IOC vote, a long-anticipated moment for the city.

The Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato produced the full Olympic series at its Rome facility, with individual issues frequently selling out through subscription before general release.
