Obverse description Three-quarter facing bust of Antonio Meucci, inventor of the telephone, depicted as an elderly bearded man with long wavy hair and period attire, occupying the central field. Flanking the portrait on either side, within a horizontal recessed band, are engraved schematic representations of early telephonic apparatus — a bell-type transmitter to the left and a cup-shaped receiver to the right — rendered in precise linear style. The two-line legend REPUBBLICA ITALIANA appears in a bold, decorative geometric typeface within a recessed cartouche at the lower portion of the field. The engraver's signature A. MASINI is inscribed below the cartouche near the bottom rim.
