Obverse lettering WILLEM-ALEXANDER KONING DER NEDERLANDEN
(Translation: WILLEM-ALEXANDER KING OF THE NETHERLANDS)
Reverse description The reverse presents a detailed aerial-perspective illustration of a circular Dutch water defence fort, complete with a surrounding moat and a drawbridge extending from the lower foreground, rendered in finely engraved relief at centre. Above the fort, three undulating horizontal lines evoke water, styled in the manner of a postage stamp cancellation mark, symbolising the inundation defence system. The denomination 5 EURO appears prominently in large stylised lettering to the right of centre. An encircling legend filling the entire periphery of the field lists, in small text, all the named forts of the Defence Line of Amsterdam, alongside the inscription DE STELLING VAN AMSTERDAM NEDERLANDS WERELDERFGOED 2017.
