Above the central design, a cursive handwritten legend reads 'Isto é o futuro' (This is the future), and below, a second cursive inscription reads 'com paz, liberdade e igualdade de todos' (with peace, freedom and equality of all). The country name 'PORTUGAL' appears as a straight legend at the upper rim in capital letters. Issued under Portugal's long-running thematic commemorative program, this piece was struck by INCM at the Lisbon mint, which has operated continuously since the 13th century — one of the oldest active minting institutions in Europe. The "youth and the future" theme reflects a post-bailout political emphasis in Portugal following the 2011–2014 EU-IMF assistance program, during which youth unemployment briefly exceeded 40%.
