Latvia's central bank has issued themed collector coins with some regularity, but this piece commemorates Eurovision — specifically Latvia's participation in the contest, which the country won in 2002 with Marie N's "I Wanna." That victory obligated Latvia to host the 2003 contest in Riga, the first time the event came to a post-Soviet Baltic state.
The .999 fine silver specification, rather than the more common .925, suggests a deliberate premium positioning for this release.
