Beschrijving voorzijde The heraldic Welsh Dragon passant, facing left with wings displayed and tail curled, rendered in bold relief at the centre of the field. A circular arc frames the dragon above and below, with the legend 'WALES' arching across the upper field in large capital letters. Twelve five-pointed stars are arranged around the inner border, evoking the European Union motif. The multilingual trial inscriptions 'TRIAL PROBE ESSAI' appear to the left of the dragon, and the date '2004' is placed in the lower exergual area flanked by stars.

Aanvullende informatie

Wales has never been a currency-issuing authority within the United Kingdom — monetary policy and coinage have always been reserved to the Crown and, in practice, the Royal Mint acting for the whole of Britain. A Welsh-attributed euro cent pattern from 2004 places it squarely in the political debate surrounding devolution and hypothetical Welsh independence rather than any actual monetary transition. The UK never joined the eurozone, making all such pieces purely speculative or promotional strikes with no legislative backing whatsoever.
