| 表面の説明 | At center, the Brian Boru harp, a traditional heraldic symbol of Ireland, rendered in fine detail with its characteristic curved forepillar. The harp is flanked on either side by a ring of twelve five-pointed stars representing the member states of the European Union, arranged along the coin's rim. Below the harp, the inscription ÉIRE appears in incuse Latin characters, identifying the issuing state in the Irish language. The mint year is struck to the right of the harp in the lower field. The overall design was executed by engraver Jarlath Hayes. |

Ireland's euro coinage was struck at the Monnaie de Paris for the 2002 launch, not domestically — the Currency Centre in Sandyford had no capacity for the volume required at changeover. The transition itself was notably smooth by European standards, completed within weeks of the January 1 introduction, with the Irish pound demonetized for exchange purposes by February 9, 2002.
