| Reverse description | The reverse presents a richly detailed portrait of M.C. Escher, depicted in partial profile with a prominent beard, his face occupying the right portion of the field in a style reminiscent of Escher's own graphic self-portraits. The left side of the field features an intricate tessellation motif in which fish and birds transition seamlessly into one another, framed by a circular mechanical element evoking Escher's characteristic illusionistic imagery. The inscription M.C.ESCHER appears in the lower central field, with the artist's birth and death years 1898–1972 beneath. The engraver is Willem Vis. |
