| Obverse description | The Portuguese coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting the traditional escutcheon with five inescutcheons charged with bezants arranged in a cross, enclosed within a larger shield bearing castles along the bordure, all rendered in fine engraved detail. Surmounting the shield is a stylized knotted rope or armillary-sphere motif. The circular legend reads REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA, with the date 1986 positioned to the left, all separated by small floral ornaments. |

| Reverse description | The upper portion of the reverse features a large, intricate filigree rosette motif in the traditional Portuguese style, its radiating looped tendrils and bud-like terminals rendered in fine relief, characteristic of the goldsmithing tradition of the Minho region. Below this decorative element, the bold numeral 5 is prominently displayed above the curved legend ESCUDOS spanning the lower arc of the field. The incused word PROVA appears to the left of the design, along with the engraver's signature H BATISTA and the mint mark INCM in small characters. |
