5 Escudos Pattern

Beschrijving voorzijde	Central device comprising the Portuguese armillary sphere surmounted by the Portuguese coat of arms, consisting of five escutcheons arranged in a cross, each charged with five bezants, set within a red bordure of seven castles. The armillary sphere rests on a pedestal in the lower field. The circular legend REPÚBLICA PORTUGUESA arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 1962 displayed in large numerals along the lower periphery. The word PROVA appears in the right field, identifying this piece as a pattern or proof striking. The design is executed in high relief with a finely milled border.
