| Reverse description | The Portuguese coat of arms, consisting of five escutcheons arranged in a quincunx each charged with five bezants, is set at the centre of a Portuguese armillary sphere depicted with meridian and equatorial bands. The entire device is superimposed upon an equal-armed cross, the arms of which extend to the beaded border of the coin. The circular legend 'REPÚBLICA·PORTUGUESA' runs along the upper periphery in Latin characters, and the date '1973' appears in the lower exergual area between the lower arms of the cross. |
