| Reverse description | The central motif is a Portuguese armillary sphere rendered in low relief, its meridian and equatorial bands intersecting at a central axis, with a cross of the Order of Christ at its heart. Within the sphere, the Portuguese royal shield displays five escutcheons arranged in a cross, each bearing five bezants, surrounded by a bordure charged with seven castles. The legend REPÚBLICA·PORTUGUESA curves along the upper periphery in evenly spaced raised lettering. The four-digit date 1972 appears in the lower exergual area, flanked by small decorative ornaments, all within a beaded border. |
