| Obverse description | The Mozambique colonial coat of arms is depicted centrally, consisting of a divided shield surmounted by a mural crown of five towers, all superimposed upon an armillary sphere whose meridian bands extend to the coin's inner border. The shield's dexter half bears the five quinas of Portugal arranged in saltire, while the sinister half displays a stylised plant motif above wavy lines representing the sea. Two small floral ornaments flank the design in the lower field. The legend MOÇAMBIQUE curves along the upper periphery, and the denomination 5$00 appears in large characters along the lower periphery, all within a beaded border. |
