Swaziland's 2014 coinage was issued under Mswati III, who ascended the throne in 1986 at eighteen after a four-year regency following his father Sobhuza II's death — Sobhuza having ruled for 82 years, the longest verified reign of any monarch in recorded history. The pressure to maintain continuity with that dynastic weight shaped how the Central Bank approached its currency design choices through the 1990s and 2000s.
KM#62 represents a relatively late-series entry in the Swazi decimal coinage program established after independence in 1968.
