| Reverse description | The reverse depicts an equestrian portrait of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V in full armour, shown in right-facing profile astride a prancing horse. The emperor wears a plumed helmet and elaborately detailed plate armour, and holds a long lance diagonally across the composition, evoking the celebrated portrait by Titian. The horse is rendered in fine relief with naturalistic musculature and a decorative bridle. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, and the date 1989 appears in the lower exergual area flanked by decorative dots. |
