Aanvullende informatie

Belgium held the rotating presidency of the European Community's Council of Ministers for the first half of 1993 — a particularly charged six months, as the Maastricht Treaty had just entered into force in November 1992, formally establishing the European Union. This coin was issued against that backdrop, with Baudouin I dying unexpectedly in July 1993, just months after the presidency concluded, making it one of the final commemorative issues bearing his name as reigning monarch.

The .833 fineness is characteristic of Belgian silver commemoratives of this period, chosen to reduce silver content costs while maintaining the appearance of a premium issue.
