La Palma is one of five Spanish overseas territories that have issued these brass "dukatos" under a licensing arrangement that allows local authorities to produce collector pieces outside the official euro coinage framework. The Peleides blue morpho — Morpho peleides — is native to Central and South America, not the Canary Islands, making its appearance here a purely commercial choice rather than any ecological or regional connection.
