Obverse description Central shield bearing the arms of Lucerne (divided blue and white per fess) set on an ornate baroque cartouche, surmounted by a royal crown. The shield is supported by two wild men (woodwoses), each wearing a wreath of foliage about their heads and loins; the dexter supporter holds an upright sword and the sinister supporter holds a palm frond, both figures standing upon a scrolled plinth. A shell ornament appears above the shield and a mascaron decorates the base of the cartouche, all executed in the elaborate baroque style characteristic of eighteenth-century Swiss civic coinage.
