正面描述 The central field displays the elaborate quartered coat of arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg, surmounted by an archiepiscopal galero with tassels suspended on either side and a processional cross above. The shield incorporates the arms of Salzburg and the personal arms of Archbishop Guidobald von Thun, set within an ornate baroque cartouche. The date 16-55 is divided across the field to left and right of the shield. A circular Latin legend reading GVIDOBALDVS D G ARCHI EPS SALISBVRG SED AP LEG surrounds the central device, separated from the milled edge by a beaded border.

附加信息

Guidobald von Thun und Hohenstein was elected Archbishop of Salzburg in 1654, and this five-ducat piece from his first full year of issue reflects the ambition of a prince-bishop who would go on to commission Fischer von Erlach's predecessor architects to reshape the city. The Salzburg mint was among the most prolific ecclesiastical minting operations in the Holy Roman Empire, drawing on nearby silver wealth — but for gold multiples like this, production was deliberately limited, functioning more as diplomatic gifts and presentation pieces than circulating currency.

The .986 fineness is characteristic of Salzburg ducats of the period, marginally exceeding the Reichsdukat standard.
