| Opis awersu | Central field occupied by a large double-lined cross dividing the coin into four quadrants, each containing an arc of beaded inner circle segments forming a quatrefoil pattern. The cross arms are boldly struck with a pellet at the centre. The Latin legend CHRISTIANUS IIII D G DANIAE NORVEGIAE GOTHORUM VANDALORUM REX ELECTUS HAERES NORVEGIAE runs continuously around the periphery between two beaded borders, with a crescent moon mintmark visible at the top. The coin is struck in high relief typical of late sixteenth-century Danish hammered gold coinage, with a beaded outer rim encircling the entire design. |

Christian IV was only fourteen in 1591 — technically king since 1588 but still under regency council until 1596. These multi-ducat presentation pieces were almost certainly struck under the authority of the regency, likely for diplomatic gift-giving, a function that explains the generous flan and the complete absence of evidence that any example entered commercial circulation.
Fr#63 is a rare Friedberg listing. Survivors surface almost exclusively in Scandinavian auction archives.
